Its nice to see Mueller making a come back. Sucks when these kids get time cut short from injuries. Elliots gonna be good. |

Good win. LA's a good team. Do fans think they have the line up to make it into the playoffs? If you squeek in, the first round matchup is going to be a b!tch. - bloatedmosquito
When duchene comes back it looks good
Mueller and Duchene are great together and if those two could form up on Stastny's wings that line could be dynamic
Mueller-Stastny-Duchene
Landeskog-O'Reilly-Hejduk
Galiardi-McClement-Winnik
Kobasew-Van der Gulik-McLeod
that's a solid lineup as long as the defense plays strong and Giguere holds out. He's the starter the rest of the year, about 3 out of every 5 games.
Team is just better in him and Varly can learn what it takes to win in the NHL. |

I am actually putting the Avs at 7th you can quote me on it.
It still is a b!tch vs the Sharks but the Avs seem to give the fish fits when we are on our game. That is actually the match up I would like to see. Yeah Avs vs Vancouver scares me. At the same time.. Avs VS Chicago is the same thing. We would have a better chance as long as it's not VS the Hoovers the way I see it. So if we are 8th I hope Chicago wins it. If we make 7th I hope the Hoovers are 1st or 3rd lolz
Assuming the Avs out battle Dallas for the Playoffs.. Kings, Avs, Dallas is what I am looking at for 7th and 8th in the West.
Edit.. I don't see Detroit staying up there ahead of Chicago by the end of the season but Det vs Avs would be just as fun to watch. I am not really "expecting" us to make it past the first round if we get in but another taste of the playoffs is exactly what our core needs. |

Avs-Blues for a playoff series that will make headlines. If that happens can we just call it an even trade? |

Yes
Also I think Quick needs to watch that slash at the end against Winnik, if Winnik was any other player Quick might have got a few punches after that incident. |

There is nothing more frustrating than a team with talent that can't score. So hard being a Kings fan. Sigh... |

Yeah that would be a sick matchup. The only one I don't want to see is Avs VS Van... Just based on historical frustrations. |

There is a perk: each time the Avs won the cup, they beat Vancouver to get there.
My ideal is Avs-Blues. |

Jones is 100% gone at the deadline with how Mueller is bouncing back, plus a healthy Duchene, where do you even try to pencil him in.
Toss Hunwick in that any deal with him and let the good times roll going forward pushing for a playoff spot |

Unless we add a forward without losing him.. With Jones we could roll 3 scoring lines.
Ruutu - Duchene - Mueller
Landy - O'R - Hejduk
Galiardi - Stastny - Jones
DVG - McC - Winnik
Hmmmmmm?
Edit.. I posed a bigger trade with Carolina looking something like this. Hejda + 2nd + 4th/ prospect for Ruutu + Gleason. That would be crazy improving our D and adding a gritty forward at the same time. We could even throw in Funwick for salary if they need it.
Johnson - GL
Quincey - Wil
Elliott - O'B/O'B |

Exactly. That is why Avs development > Edm development. I think Edm is playing with fire. It seems that the Avs are building a team that supports the young core so winning isn't an impossibility. Winning breads confidence and visa versa... |

Yeah everyone does not seem to think making the playoffs even if you get bounced in the first round or second round is not important. I can garentee you that Duchene and O'R along with the rest of the team remember what that feels like and you can only really truly appreciate something you have experienced. Giving Landeskog that along with Mueller this year will be just as valuable this year for their development.
We have our core and need to give them experience while also showing we are a team headed in the right direction in order to attract the FA's we need.
Do you think getting to the Finals and losing does not make Vancouver play harder? Pit made the finals one year and then won it the next because they got the taste they needed. No the Avs are not their this year but if we get lucky in the off season we could see a deeper run in the playoffs giving the team the real motivation they need after building chemistry for an entire year.
You don't build a contending team by staying in the basement each year like Edm.. You need to maintain some sort of winning culture. You also build a team by proving to the rest of the league you only need a few pieces so that free agents look at your team as a destination like they do Chicago, Pit, SJ, Wash, Phil and Van.. Each of these teams seen the playoffs a few years before getting players to sign cap friendly deals in order to build real depth.
Edm is looked at as an up an coming team but not really taken seriously because they have not even sniffed at the post season for so long and players see that. |

Well that and the oilers management forgot about things like defense and goaltending. Minor details.
The avs movements the past year have really been good for them. A change away from flashy offense to rudimentary defense, goaltending, grit and leadership. the minor acquisitions (winnik, mcclement) and signings (obrien and giguere.) have been huge.
Oh and mueller back doesn't hurt. |

This game was a fantastic display of what the boys are capable of and this was only a small percentage of their potential. They could've scored a lot more and they were at many moments in the 3rd, close to fizzling out and giving up a goal. Before Lando scored the 3rd goal I was completely frantic.
The game against Anaheim should serve as more precise measure of how well this team is holding up. |

What a game last night !!! I was waiting all day for that .. Good all around game for the boys , started to fall off there in the third but thanks to stas having another great game and lando with the late snipe and jiggy having another solid game we came out with a very important 2 points . How about mueller too , F***** love this guy , i woulda loved to see how we would of made out in the playoffs with him 2 years ago , i guarantee we would have beat the sharks in 4 , which we still should have anyways ..As for elliot and quincey great comeback games for both .. NOw we have the ducks who seem to have found there game which is a little scary , i could see them going on a huge run and making things in the west even tighter , which couldnt really get much tighter then what it is .We just need to keep playing they way we are till duchene gets back , hopefully the time off will get him motivated to be the player we all know he can be and he comes back with a vengence ... Good luck tonight boys !!!!!
Go avs GO !!!! |

Dater has a decent article up about how we should stay pat at the deadline, no need to decrease our prospect pick stock as it seems a bit low at the moment.
I wonder if we could pull off a cap dump kind of trade at the deadline without sacrificing very much to do so. |
